A regular schedule of dosing is the most effective approach. Heating pads and warm showers are helpful to many people. Others find relief in icing the back.

Walking is among the best back exercises for lower back pain. Walking strengthens the muscles that support the back and keeps the blood flowing to provide necessary nutrients and oxygen to the spine and supporting muscles. If you have access to a pool, walking in water is also an excellent back exercise. Your doctor or physical therapist can give you more suggestions for strengthening your back muscles.
