Cortisol deficiency usually shows in small ways at first, and the symptoms get worse as time goes on. If you feel weak and tired frequently, notice pigmentation spots and areas on your skin, and get abdominal pains that recur but always go away you may have a problem with your cortisol levels.

Underactive thyroid symptoms can include low blood pressure, weight loss, muscle cramps and pains, and a craving for food and drink that is salty. If you are female you may notice that your periods become irregular, and may stop completely. Low cortisol symptoms can also include diarrhea that may appear and then go away, a feeling of nausea, vomiting, and a loss of appetite.

If you have any of these symptoms than you may suffer from a female hormone imbalance. You can experience low cortisol symptoms that may be mild or severe, or any point in between. At first you may notice small signs of an imbalance, and these problems continue to get worse as your levels drop further.

High cortisol levels can be just as harmful as not having enough, and there is a delicate balance that your body must keep for good health and function. If you are producing too much cortisol then you can notice a weight gain around your abdomen, and infertility is also a common symptom of these levels being elevated for long periods. Although different than low cortisol symptoms these can be just as dangerous, and also take some time to become noticeable.

Low cortisol levels can be caused by a number of things which affect the production of cortisol in the adrenal glands. As your body starts to experience the low cortisol symptoms you may find it harder to go about your daily activities. If you experience any of these symptoms then you should see your physician and have your cortisol levels checked.
