Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Diet – What Should Be Included?
Laryngopharyngeal reflux is a condition including annoying symptoms like constant throat irritation, excessive throat phlegm, cough, hoarseness, heartburn, crackling voice, post nasal drip and more. Laryngopharyngeal reflux occurs from the stomach acids traveling back up into the throat. This backflow of stomach contents moves its way back into the esophagus and upper airways.
When suffering from laryngopharyngeal reflux, a diet low in acid producing foods would be suggested. There are some sore throat home remedies which will ease the throat irritation caused by acid backup, or LPR reflux. Gargling with salt water, using a humidifier, or increasing water intake will ease such throat irritation. These simple methods are also effective as a post nasal drip treatment.
When laryngitis is developed as a result of laryngopharyngeal reflux, staying sufficiently hydrated and keeping moisture in the air as well as resting the vocal cords is effective as laryngitis remedies. A few other highly suggested ways of avoiding laryngopharyngeal reflux symptoms include kicking the smoking habit, eating more than two hours before bedtime, elevating the head while sleeping, finding ways to relax, and wearing loosely fitting clothing around the waist.
