Blood Sugar Too High – What To Do?

Blood Sugar Too HighHow do you know when your blood sugar too high, and what should you do about this situation? The first step that you may want to take is to switch to a low blood sugar diet. This diet helps to keep your blood sugar at a stable level which is more normal, and can prevent many complications associated with elevated blood sugar. If you are prescribed insulin you may be advised to give yourself a shot, but if you are not diabetic there are other things you can do to get these numbers down.

Some home remedies for high blood sugar can include chamomile tea, cinnamon, and almonds. Each of these foods has been seen to have some effect on lowering blood sugar levels. Exercise is another way you can resolve blood sugar too high, because exercise naturally uses up some of the glucose in your blood, and this may lower the levels back to normal. Take a walk around town, or go for a jog or bike ride. Any of these activities can help lower your levels and prevent problems.

If you are overweight or obese and have blood sugar too high then you may need to lose some weight. Carrying around extra weight makes it harder for your body to regulate blood sugar, and can cause higher levels. Individuals who are overweight are more likely to have results from fasting blood sugar tests which are also high. Exercise and a change of diet can help you shed any extra pounds, so you can control your blood sugar levels better.

If you have blood sugar too high and your numbers reach 180 mg/dL and stay there, you should see a doctor or go to the nearest emergency room. You may need insulin or other treatment to bring these numbers back down, and unless you have these medications handy this could become a life threatening situation very quickly. High blood sugar symptoms should never be ignored, and if these symptoms are moderate or severe you should seek help.
